Bradford Literature Festival Curated and produced a multi-event programme combining literature, film and workshops, engaging audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Delivered over 750+ events to an audience of 187,000 making BLF the largest and most diverse literature festival in the UK. Programmed multiple strands of events designed to highlight both high-profile authors such as Ash Sarkar and William Dalrymple, as well as community voices, connecting local stories with wider cultural themes and topical conversations. Working together with Manchester Central Foodbank, developed a 6 month art programme with individuals accessing the service. We established a number of themes we wanted to explore from our steer group. This included Manchester, housing, food, mental health and well being. We then expanded on these themes each month to create a series of work. The project led to a co-created map of Manchester featuring key advice, useful services as well as free places to access art and culture. The map had a digital version so users could navigate themselves to each location easily. The tasks from the sessions were then acculminated into an interactive workbook for more people to get involved in the project. Launched an online radio station providing creative content and connection for audiences during lockdown. Secured funding from Music Venues Trust and Arts Council England. Renovated venue spaces to create rehearsal studios, co-working areas, and community meeting rooms, enabling ongoing arts engagement. Post-lockdown, the programme delivered live music, exhibitions, club nights, and public art activations, including a mural unveiling for activist Len Johnson. The campaign, Block The Block, have been relentless in their fight to protect their local community from being turned into a student village by developers. With an increasingly ageing community, they would like to see the land be used to build an assisted living retirement home. Then there was digital. How does a craft change when technology moves so quick? Do you modernise or die? That's the question I asked Photographer, John Marshall. In the 80's he was a Press Photographer, documenting key historical moments in the North of England such as the Miner's Strike, the Moors Murderers and of course Sport. But when film was no longer viable, he had to adapt. The style of his photography changed.
